Full disclosure…I was obsessed with the miniseries North and South when it came on in the 80’s.  So when I saw Boone Hall Plantation listed in our tourist guide I knew I had to figure out a way to convince the family to go with me.  Let’s just say that they were not thrilled to be touring YET ANOTHER historic home.  But when we arrived to book our tour, an employee asked the girls if they knew that scenes from The Notebook had been filmed here also.  Suddenly, a few of the girls were desperate to see the place.

Several of the original slave cabins are still preserved on the property.  The have been turned into museum-like areas with each cabin representing a time period from slavery through the modern era.  Each of the cabins had a flat screen tv that presented a short video.  As we left one of the exhibits, Ava said “Those slaves must have been rich to have such nice tvs!”  Ya’ll…who can I blame other than the public school system for this?
