Basically I view weight loss as a three legged stool. I think nutrition is two legs and exercise is one. The fact is, it’s very hard to balance without all three. I believe you can lose a whole bunch of weight without ever stepping into a gym. But like many things…just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
I approached my exercise regimen with dread. Every stinkin week. I committed to the class with Jen and Tuesday and Thursday mornings. But I adamantly refused to do anything on top of that. The other women I worked out with took evening exercise classes or trained for marathons on the weekend. Me? I walked out on Thursday as the happiest girl in the world because I had 5 full days of no exercise in front of me. No squats. No planks. No lunges. No nothing.
I’d be lying if I told you that I intended to exercise twice a week and continue to make horrible food choices. Just FYI, I never intend to make bad food choices. But week after week, I would put in my two hours of exercise and then generally just eat whatever found it’s way into my hand. A time or two, I made great choices for days and even weeks at a time. But by the time Thanksgiving rolled around I was fatter than ever. I was also in better shape than I had been in for 15 years. Even with just that small commitment to exercise, my body was changing. Every week I was getting stronger. And every time Jen asked me to do something and was able to actually do it? That was the surprise. You see I started working out to change my body and I ended up changing my mind.
So here we are at the end of month one. Down 11 pounds. Take that January!
I’m assuming you’re not writing these to be tear-jerkers but they do just that each time. So proud of you. So honored to be part of your journey. You rock!!!
