The Goal – Week 21

So May and I did not get along.  And, for once, food wasn’t the problem.  Which was a bit refreshing actually.

I started the month with two simple tasks. 1) Throw a sweet sixteen party for my oldest daughter and 2) Help with a yard sale to raise money for a friend with cancer.  I could have handled those two tasks. But May had so much more to throw at me.

I survived the party.  Fun was had by all.  I didn’t spend a fortune and no teen stormed out crying.  Success!  I planned to reward myself by relaxing for a few days. Except…No.

The Monday after the party my stepdaughter’s husband decided he didn’t like the whole ‘being married’ thing.  Did I mention they are expecting a baby?  In two months?  So we added a very pregnant, very sad child back into our home.  And unless you have dealt with a child being hurt like this, you just cannot imagine how bad it feels.

And I knew food would not fix it.

And did I also forget to mention that my step son lived with his sister and her husband?  And that he lost his place to live at the same time?  And that he moved back in too.  And that he’s 23 and unemployed?

And I knew food would not fix it.

And then I got sick.  Like actually sick.  I NEVER get sick.  It’s like my spiritual gift.  But I got sick and stayed sick.  Sick enough that I went to a doctor that doesn’t deliver babies.  And I got meds.  And then the meds made me sick.

And I knew food would not fix it.

While I was sick I missed 7 workouts.  My house went from being charmingly messy to a possible set for a Febreze commercial.  My poor kids were wearing hoodies in 89 degree weather because the laundry just wasn’t happening.

And I knew food would not fix it.

So May and I are not parting as friends.  And, to be honest, I’m not looking all that forward to June.  But I didn’t turn to food this month for comfort or answers.  And for a month such as this, that’s victory enough.

  1. Persist On Sister!

  2. Ugh! I would say that June can only get better but I don’t want to jinx it!
